Fashion Week Begins with DANNIJO

In lieu of a full-scale presentation, last night DANNIJO hosted an intimate sit-down dinner to showcase their Fall 2012 collection. The jewelry, as always, was lust-worthy, and had a distinct bohemian deco theme. Vintage Mosaic beads, oxidized brass, turquoise, and black marquise crystals played starring roles in the collection, entitled Labryinth.

To go along with the informal vibe of the event, the designers asked a few of their friends to model the jewelry, and I was thrilled to be one of them, along with other muses like Lisa Mayock of Vena Cava, Leandra Medine aka The Man Repeller, Rachelle Hruska of Guest of a Guest, and DJ Becka Diamondsuch a cool group of ladies.
Eye-popping gems are not solely the provenance of the red carpet. This season, fashion editorials and advertisements are replete with huge gemstones and other enormous design elements of all manner of materials set into rings and other jewelry as accompaniment to the latest looks. Here are some of the latest examples:

Singer Christina Aguilera is pictured in the February 2012 issue of Marie Claire wearing a huge rock crystal ring from CC Skye with her Vionnet dress.

The February 2012 issue of O, the Oprah Magazine highlights a bright yellow ring from Kendra Scott as an example of an “acid bright” that can perk up a wardrobe.

January Guest Blogger: Sari Tuschman, Editor-in-Chief, Los Angeles Confidential
Our Charm & Chain guest blogger this month is Sari Tuschman, Editor-in-Chief of Los Angeles Confidential and jewelry connoisseur extraordinaire. Sari not only has an unparalleled eye for good jewelry (her taste level rivals her icon Rachel Zoe when it comes to accessories) but like many of us, she also sees a deeper sentimental meaning in the act of wearing, buying and giving jewelry. Sari recently shared with me her special perception of what jewelry means in context of a story about her family history.
At this time of the year traditionally devoted to fresh starts, is there anything more lovely than the delight of fresh blooms? Perhaps eager for the warmer temperatures and gentler breezes of spring, designers have introduced blooms that can raise spirits through the chilliest winter days. On fabrics, bold botanical patterns reign; in jewelry, matching blooms are often worn in profusion.

Elle magazine highlights “Power Flowers” in its December 2011 issue. Among other designs are featured an elaborate lacquer ring with diamonds and spinels from Dior Fine Jewelry. N
