Eye-popping gems are not solely the provenance of the red carpet. This season, fashion editorials and advertisements are replete with huge gemstones and other enormous design elements of all manner of materials set into rings and other jewelry as accompaniment to the latest looks. Here are some of the latest examples:

Singer Christina Aguilera is pictured in the February 2012 issue of Marie Claire wearing a huge rock crystal ring from CC Skye with her Vionnet dress.

The February 2012 issue of O, the Oprah Magazine highlights a bright yellow ring from Kendra Scott as an example of an “acid bright” that can perk up a wardrobe.

Sinuous Styles: Wraps & Swirls

Jewelry designs that wrap or swirl around a wrist or finger are very much in the fashion spotlight this season. Their inherent sensuousness gives them, and the wearer, an intriguing allure. Much of their visibility as a style option is due to designer ads placed in fashion and luxury-focused magazines.

An ad from Bloomingdale’s that appears in the December 2011/January 2012 issue of Harper’s Bazaar features Roberto Coin’s “‘Martellato” diamond snake ring.

An ad for Staurino Fratelli from the December 2011 issue of Town & Country highlights the “Magic Snake” ring that wraps multiple times around a finger.

An ad for Mattia Cielo that appears in the December 2011 issue of Town & Country features a coiled bracelet of 18kt gold studded with diamonds from the “Rugiada” ["Dew"] collection, which was also featured in the November 2011 issue of JCK Magazine.

There is a lot of competition out there for Valentines sales.  Getting noticed can be a difficult challenge.  Creating typical displays with heart balloons and red streamers will not do much for sales anymore.  Finding a creative edge that suggests value to your product and excellent customer service is essential.  Additionally,  jewelry and fashion are competing with chocolate and flowers, those lazy gifts that men so often opt for at the last moment.

Leave it to Korean cosmetic companies to be the pulse on beauty trends in Asia. The latest phenomenon: snail cream. Although this news isnt earth-shattering—Europeans have used snail mucus in their products for years—snail cream has become ever popular in Korea and theres a big reason why: the secret is in the slime.
